What I Saw At The Parish of St. Blog

How to make a cake for real men: the Meatcake. (Eve Tushnet)

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] jamestrainor and I headed out to Mystic Lake after the Detour meeting, refueling the Kia, and finding out that my camo cooler really wasn't in the AD storage locker after all. Unlike last time, we got no love or money from the Tabasco video slots, but we did do a thorough job of pillaging the buffet, which had some excellent pulled pork BBQ, Quiche Lorraine, and other delights.

A couple of posts on conventions

First, [livejournal.com profile] badger2305 has some thoughts on SF conventions in general, how they've changed, and why. RTWT, including the comments. Not all of this applies to Detour, of course; anime conventions cater to a different fandom than Convergence does and Minicon did. Still, there are lessons to be learned here.

Also worth noting: John Ringo on the basic theory of running conventions. Again, this applies more to SF cons than it does to anime conventions, but there are some important lessons for con staff. Knowing what your guests and membership want is damned important!
