Down by the river
Spent part of yesterday evening driving up and down Route 101 in Shakopee looking for the accesses to the Minnesota River Valley Wildlife Refuge, which has a number of hiking trails, but didn't find them and wound up in some u/i little state park (or scientific/natural area; there was no sign - just a bare bulletin board) instead. We did maybe half an hour's worth of hiking before deciding there were too many mosquitos under the trees and decamping to El Toro for dinner.
Nothing special, actually. The food was all right, the crack dip was reminiscent of El Loro, and the guacamole atop the tamalguac was decent, but it was really nothing to go out of your way for, especially since the management had clearly dialed back the spices in deference to what appeared to be an overwhelmingly whitebread customer base. Well, it's a business, and you can't really blame them for catering to the base.
Afterward we headed over to Dangerfield's for dessert. We felt horribly underdressed - this is clearly a more high-end place than it used to be when it was up the hill in what is now the home of Panzerella's - and the tab for two desserts with coffee and iced tea drove that home. The desserts were good but understated.
All this high living and the relative lack of exercise (to say nothing of having fallen off the FitDay horse again) did nothing for my waistline as I tacked on another 2.4 pounds and rose over 418 for the first time since July. Well, time to get back on the horse.
