Library gets

O Brother, Where Art Thou? I'm really looking forward to this one.

David Brin's Heaven's Reach. I am apparently missing the middle novel of this trilogy, Infinity's Shore.
Scott McCloud's Making Comics. Maybe I should have gotten Understanding Comics first, but w/e.
David Weber's Off Armageddon Reef. Saw this on sale at B&N, but decided to wait until I could find a copy in the library first - and then forgot the title. :(
The Five Fists of Science, which looks goofy but fun.
Oldboy. Should have realized this was a manwha before it became a movie.
C. J. Cherryh's Forge of Heaven, which looks like a sequel to Hammerfall.

OBWAT is great. Now I want to watch it again!

It lost the toss to Boonsock Saints tonight, but I'll get to it this week.

Also a fine film. If you liked Boondock Saints, you should check out Overnight, a documentary on the making of it. Troy Duffy (the writer/director) is a complete loon.

Is he a good loon or a bad loon?

[identity profile] 433.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He's extremely full of himself, and nearly wrecks any chance of ever working in the film industry again.

Well, given the way the independent film business seems to be growing, and the success of Boondock Saints in what boiled down to a direct-to-video release, he probably doesn't care if he works in Hollywood.

Except for the fact that he took a huge front-end deal and squandered that on a film that did noting at the box office. Weinstein (and maybe some of the actors) is the only one who's making big money on the DVD.

Someone may indeed bankroll him to do All Saints Day (his title for the sequel), but he's been trying for six or so years now.

Interesting. I hadn't been aware of that.

Anyway, according to Wikipedia, shooting on the sequel is underway.

And if it's on Wikipedia, it must be true?

It's entirely possible that someone did give him the money to do so, but it doesn't change the fact that he was a real dick, and could have gotten the sequel up and running in 2002 when he wanted to if he hadn't been an ass.

Obviously not.

Yeah, well, unfortunately the world is full of assholes getting stuff done in the most difficult way possible. I try not to judge the art by the artist, otherwise I'd be deprived of a lot of good stuff by [livejournal.com profile] ursulav, among others.

Heh. Point taken.

I would still recommend the documentary.
