Bad combination

So I spent most of this weekend laying around, sitting around, or baking. (Not that last week was a whole lot better, mind you.) This morning's weigh-in showed the grim results of that, though considering that my blood sugars had been trending up all last week I had the feeling things would turn out this way: 430 pounds on the nose. Ouch. Got to get back on track and be a little more conscientious about what goes in the old cake hole.

For those of you out of state, the weather is still crappy. It's going to stay that way, too - the daily high doesn't get above freezing until Saturday. Woo-hoo.

Just a flicker, and the crowd moves on

Unsurprisingly, all the work I didn't do yesterday (since the office was closed for MLK Jr. Day) was lying in ambush for me today when I got in, and I spent the day thrashing on upload files, AU closures, and product changes. So I'm ready for the end of the day and then some. The plan is to swing by the library, pick up the copy of Stephen Pressfield's Gates of Fire that's waiting for me, and then head home. Maybe I'll stop and get some groceries along the way, since I'm out of eggs and low on milk; everything else, I have more than enough of.

UPDATE I also found the new Charles Addams biography and the not-so-new fifth volume of Stephen King's Gunslinger & Dark Tower magnum opus. Ha! Magnum opus! I kill myself!

Reuben Flagg, Your Life Is Calling

My former employers have summoned Orville Redenbacher back from the grave to pimp dat popcorn. Can Donald Sutherland be far behind? Oh, wait, he's still alive...but so was Reuben. (Lileks)

One of the founders of Greenpeace tells other enviros it's time to leave the loggers to their logging and quit lying about endangered species. (Kate)

The Mount Soledad cross stays; atheist plaintiff in its removal suit dies. ACLU promises to bash on regardless against the new owners of the veterans' memorial, the VA. (Relapsed Catholic)

I blame John McCain for starting this shit. Now Dennis Kucinich wants to get in on the Straight Talk"Free speech for me but not for thee" Express and bring back the "Fairness Doctrine". I guess if you can't beat 'em in the marketplace of ideas, you can always legislate them out of existence, eh Dennis? (Instapundit, though I actually saw the post by Captain Ed first.)

The price of regular up here is under $1.95/gal at a number of places, and some folks think it's not just the warm weather. Does seem interesting that the Saudis don't see a need to cut production even though the price of crude is lower than it's been in over a year. Maybe the sheiks are doing W a favor by sticking it to Chavez and the Iranians, both of whom need oil revenue. Maybe it's a subtle yet unspeakably evil plan by our Dark Lord. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

On that note, I'm calling it a night and crashing early.
