This kind of egoboo I don't need

Getting sixteen comments to one of my posts is a neat feeling...until finding out that 16 of them are anonymous blather left by some bogans in Queensland (or spoofing their IP address to make it look like Queensland, anyway) and/or their sockpuppets, This is the sort of garbage that makes people f-lock their LJs. I've been reluctant to do that since it would keep a number of friends who don't have LJs from posting the occasional astute comment here. Well, I'll leave things open for now and see what happens. God only knows what attracted those idiots.

You could always send your LJ-less friends invitations to LJ. I did that and the friend I sent it to accepted. She doesn't post in her LJ, but at least she can read mine.

Of course, if someone only has Internet access at work and their employer has denied access to LJ (one of my friend's employers has done that), it wouldn't help that person. . .

Interestingly enough, one of the people on my f-list was doing that (commenting without posting in their own LJ) before I even started this...

I'd issue invites, but most of the "anonymous" friends of mine aren't interested in an LJ account, even for commenting. If the spam keeps up, though, I may not have much of a choice.

... speaking as one of the "anonymous" friends who doesn't want an LJ account even for commenting...

why don't you set things up so that the comments are screened before being shown on your page? or are you already doing that?

i guess you aren't doing that. :)

Not yet.

That's another possibility. All of the comments hit my e-mail box as well as the LJ; screening would just mean that they went there first. I'd be okay with that...if I could see my e-mail account at work, which unfortunately I can't. As I said, I'm waiting to see if this spam becomes more of a problem before I make any drastic changes.
