wtf, sleep cycle

I could not get to sleep last night. I tried everything short of dosing myself with NyQuils, but the brain would not shut down and the body would not relax, so I was awake at least until 0430 which made me worse than useless when the alarm went off at 0630. I called in sick and went back to sleep until noon. I'm still kind of tired and sleep-depped, but if I go back to bed now I'll be totally screwed tonight when I try to get some sleep. So I guess I'll make some coffee and have some kind of lunch.

srsly, wtf, I couldn't sleep for jack either. Ended up finally crashing at about 3:30 am for a 7:00 am wake up call for class at 8:00. Blargh, deaded.

It occurred to me that all the noise from the shades getting battered from the wind last night might have been the cause, but hell, I used to sleep through artillery. This was nothing compared to that. Then again, that was 25 years ago and I'm a lot older and weaker now, so...

My solution is just to open them above window level so they don't rattle. Also a small box fan or something is good for a bit of white noise, which helps me. Other than that, I find the prissy solution of warm milk + nutmeg + cinnamon actually works damn well.

Unfortunately I don't have that option - the blinds go sideways on my windows (so do the windows, but only in one direction >_<) but since it's been tolerably cool lately I may just shut the damn window. For white noise I have the nose hose and NPR, although the latter has been doing more yakking and less classical music. At this rate I may have to haul out the ginormous collection of classical CDs I inherited and find suitable sleeping music.

The warm milk is a good suggestion and I may start doing that if this keeps up.
