b) It's not one of the suggested options, but Consider Phlebas.
c) When you think I've fucked up, you tell me to my face. This is rare, and highly appreciated.

Please do. He's not my favorite character -that's Constable Fuse or Sergeant Tohbe from Jin-Roh, depending on the day & mood- but I like him a lot.
