Not exactly according to plan

I should have known better than to head over to the Source with more money than I needed to purchase For Whom The Bell Tolls. I should have just bought the game and then gone outside to drool over the game and wait for Scott. Instead, I paid for the game and then hung out inside the store for another hour, during which I picked up three more GURPS rulesbooks that I really didn't need* and a copy of the SubGenius^TM INWO game. Yes, they were all on sale, but really...I didn't need any of them, and what are the odds that I'm actually going to get to play INWO any time in the near future?

Missed the 589C that comes by a little before 7 and wound up hiking down to Old Shakopee and Nesbitt to catch the 589D. I actually ran most of the last block, which was not a good idea at all, since I was sweaty and overheated all the way into town. Hungry, too - fruit and yogurt and coffee does not quite make it as a breakfast, no matter how good it tastes. So it was that I found myself standing in line at Bruegger's. The only good news there is that after three bagels and a pint of orange juice, I may not need to eat again until around 3 PM.

Bad jokes and SIPs

I don't get over to The Volokh Conspiracy as often as I used to, mostly because it's a law blog and unlike, say, Professor Death and his blonde nemesis, there's usually not much else there to catch my attention.

Today, though, I draw your attention to these posts on doughboys (a variation on the Tom Swifty, methinks) and Amazon.com's use of statistically improbable phrases, featuring a quiz on some SIP strings. As if that weren't enough, Eugene Volokh indulges in planetological filking

God, I do love the Internet.

I don't get over to The Volokh Conspiracy as often as I used to, mostly because it's a law blog and unlike, say, Professor Death and his blonde nemesis, there's usually not much else there to catch my attention.

And speaking of Professor Althouse

She, too, loves the extremely cool & useful Uniball Micro.

Also worth checking out: assholes on airliners, some really neat pages from her Amsterdam notebooks, and an item featuring lengthy quotes from the recently assassinated coorespondent Steven Vincent, who had much criticism for the British occupying forces in Basra. As is her wont, she has a short but pithy summation of what it all meant.

I think, if she teaches constitutional law, I'd be interested in taking a class or two from her. Like Camille Paglia, she gives the impression of being a lively, fascinating instructor who isn't afraid to express her opinions and damn the torpedoes. Of course, the last part is pretty much a given, considering that she blogs.
