Convention over - great success!

Well, maybe that's exaggerating a bit, but as DJ Butler said to me Sunday morning in the consuite as we began what turned out to be a day-long post-mortem, "You made it happen, and that's the important thing." We did get a couple of folks who didn't pre-register,  plus Holly and her family showed up, so the attendance was better than expected. Maggie and Sarah sold a bunch of books, and Caitlin sold some, so that was a pleasant surprise. The Intermountain Cookie Conspiracy sort of worked - people brought in all kinds of munchies and also brought in BBQ and other foods in the evening, but nobody turned in receipts. I am bemused by this. Overall, it was even more like a large house party than Arcana was back in the day, and most importantly everybody had a good time and wants to come back next year. The consensus was that while October was bad, the proposed alternate date of August 9 was worse, so we're going to do it on the weekend of July 19 (the 79th anniversary of the Trinity test) when the rooms will be a lot cheaper, even if it's fifty million billion degrees outside.

Technically the convention owes me a fair amount of money, since the guests' hotel rooms (I include Caitlin in this because in a fit of irrational exuberance I chose to fly her out at the last minute) went on my personal credit cards, as did airfare for Maggie and Caitlin and a bunch of other things, but the hell with that; I am just going to try to do better about recruiting members for next year and paying down the credit card debt.

Am staying in the Strat until Wednesday morning since I have VA appointments tomorrow and a tour of the Security Site Wednesday. We'll see how I feel after that; may go home directly from the site, may just stay overnight in Beatty or Pahrump and go home Thursday.
