Johnny Rotten, Neocon Punk Rocker | The Weekly Standard:
Johnny Rotten, who is widely considered to embody the zenith of punk music and a former singer of the British band the Sex Pistols, issued the following statement to the Independent newspaper about his planned concert in Tel Aviv:

I really resent the presumption that I'm going there to play to right-wing Nazi jews [sic]. If Elvis-f-ing-Costello wants to pull out of a gig in Israel because he's suddenly got this compassion for Palestinians, then good on him. But I have absolutely one rule, right? Until I see an Arab country, a Muslim country, with a democracy, I won't understand how anyone can have a problem with how they're treated.

Johnny Rotten. Smacking pretentious wankers upside the head since 1975. :)

Umm, hasn't Iraq had several democratic elections since we ousted the previous regime?

Or Lebanon, since the advent of Hezbollah. Or the "Palestinian Authority", which is the most apt comparison.

The US might not always like who they elect, like Hamas for example, but they have had elections.

North Korea has elections too. The only difference between the Norks and the Palestinians/Lebanese (and let's throw in the Egyptians here to make sure we're offending all the Arabs equally) is the amount of armed coercion involved, and how obvious it is.

Yes, because nothing was ever done to make the people of Palestine so fed up that they wouldn't have elected Hamas on their own. Hamas didn't even have 50% of the vote and five other parties won seats. You can't compare that to N. Korea where all the seats were won by a single party.

The choice between Islamic death cultists and professional political thieves is one I'd prefer not to make, but after several decades of both factions shooting anyone who looked even vaguely reasonable, yeah, I can sort of understand the vote for Hamas. Not that I think they'll ever get another one. As they used to say about the African nations, "One man, one vote, one time."
