Your post made me recall the time I was sitting in Newark airport waiting for a plane. Two of the local Syracuse film critics were sitting behind me. I was eavesdropping on their conversation. They were returning from a trip to LA where among other films they previewed one of the "Die Hard" series. They were gushing over all the nice studio related merchandise they had scored. OK, so you get a free trip to the west coast where you get schmoozed and wined and dined for God knows how long. You get all kinds of goodies from the film producers and then you're supposed to go home and write an unbiased critique??? Right.

I never listen to critics. If the film looks interesting to me, or if my friends say they liked it I'll go see it. The only critic worth reading is the New Yorker's Anthony Lane. He's true critic -- he hates everything. He's also one damn entertaining writer.
