“Perhaps predictibly, someone showed up in the comments to my post on Medicare and Social Security to argue that liberal analysts have very serious plans to cut Medicare’s costs, which is why we need universal coverage, so that we can implement those very serious plans. I hear this argument quite often, and it’s gibberish in a prom dress.” Read the whole thing.

On Facebook, at any rate. And Megan claims to be a libertarian, so at least in theory she should be less offensive to my liberal friends. ;)

Then I must have mis-understood your resolution. I thought you'd said that most of your LJ friends were through anime and SF and such, and you weren't interested in alienating them. Or was it that you could hide polemic safely behind LJ cuts, which is something that you can't do at FB? Did I finally put the picture together correctly?

Just as a data point, I find most libertarian stuff to be pretty unappealing and leading to a very undesirable end-state. No, I'm not interested in explaining why I think that. I just wanted to note that your guess about "less offensive" might be incorrect.

B: I can hide my own polemics behind a cut on LJ, which doesn't seem to be possible on Facebook. As for links, well, you is been warned. :)

That's okay. It doesn't matter to me whether you were alienated after early exposure to Ayn Rand or whether there's a more substantial critique behind it. You don't have to explain if you don't want to. I love you for your art anyway.
