Old bloggers never die...

...but they do get tired of all the BS and fade away. Steven Den Beste, who I had blogrolled over on the side there ever since I found out how to do those, has gotten tired of all the nitpicking and noodging that is the lot of the popular blogger and decided to pack it in. This is unfortunate - he had some of the best posts on energy technology, anime, and politics I'd seen anywhere, and he'll be missed.

It's not quite a one-for-one replacement, but I'm filling his slot on the blogroll with The Creator of Worlds. Salaam aleikum!

I know how you feel. Every now and then, there are comickers that decide to quit whatever series they're doing and go on to other things. It's a little sad, but I would want the option to quit if I really wanted to without any real ramifications.

Where does the responsibility lie? Can people retire and have the world not get mad at them? I mean, what if someone like Tom Clancy or JK Rowling decided just to stop writing because they didn't want to do it anymore? Would the public let them do that without backlash? I know some of these bloggers have hundreds even thousands of fans, and when they quit... what happens?

I'm tired and just wanting to write stuff... sorry.

I'll go back to my script now.

by the way, I am thinking of making this one a webcomic. Maybe if people like reading this one, they'll buy my books. It's worth a shot, anyway.

That's a really good analogy. There were long stretches where I didn't bother to read what Clancy or den Beste were writing because the subject didn't interest me, and equally long stretches when I would go dig up everything I could find by them. I don't know what the answer to the question is either, but I think the key to it is that blogging is something you do because you enjoy it and (hopefully) your friends enjoy reading what you put out there. When it stops being fun for you, then you should probably stop. OTOH, you're right - what about your fans? How much do you owe them? If you're doing it for them, don't they have some reciprocal obligation to you?

On another subject, good luck with the webcomic. I didn't comment earlier when you were soliciting input 'cause I didn't really have a feel for what you were asking. Sorry.
