You'll notice nothing on the list got starred. That's because in high school and college, the only lit courses I ever took were "SF as Literature" and Shakespeare courses. Just as well; everything I heard about the crap being assigned in literature courses confirmed my gut feeling that I didn't want anything to do with those books. Also, Kipling and Emily Dickinson > Beatles; so much for poetry.
