Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Anna Karenina
Crime and Punishment It continues to amaze me that in the almost thirty years since I left DLI, I have yet to read any Russian novelists besides Solzhenitsyn. I really don't know Russia...at all. [/Jodi Mitchell]
Catch-22 After sixteen years in the Army and four in Civil Air Patrol, this isn't as funny as it used to be.

You'll notice nothing on the list got starred. That's because in high school and college, the only lit courses I ever took were "SF as Literature" and Shakespeare courses. Just as well; everything I heard about the crap being assigned in literature courses confirmed my gut feeling that I didn't want anything to do with those books. Also, Kipling and Emily Dickinson > Beatles; so much for poetry.
Not tagging, but I'm curious about how [livejournal.com profile] stuckintraffik and [livejournal.com profile] redmartel's answers & comments would look.
