After yesterday's fiasco, Quizno's is off the list of acceptable lunch options. Despite previous experience with other stores of the franchise, I went to the one in Six Quebec hoping that I would find a hot sub like the ones I remember from my youth in Washington with a toasted roll and hot meat & cheese.

Unfortunately, while the roll was toasted quite nicely and the cheese was all pleasantly melted, the beef was COLD. This is number ten, man. This is even worse than Subway's lame excuses for hot subs, which consist of various nuked fillings dumped onto the same old room-temperature roll. Cousins and Blimpie are no better. Basically, no matter where you go in the wretched Twin Towns, you are going to get some variation on a poor boy.

Unless you go to Great Steak & Fry...now there's a thought. However, even they don't do a decent steak, egg and onion sub. Their rolls are too damn small.

I have found a grand total of ONE that does it right. It's a quiznos that's out in menomenie wisconsin. They heat up the meat first, then toast the bun, cheese, etc.

yeah, it's always disappointing when you're expecing something, mouth is watering, and then... it's mediocre?

It was worse than mediocre, really. All this cool mecha-toasting gear, and I still wound up with something that tasted and felt as if it had been poorly microwaved. Well, they won't be seeing any of my custom after this, not even with a 15% discount. There's a Japanese joint right next door, and the price isn't that much different.

Duly noted...but that's a little far to go on my lunch hour.

I've only ever eaten at Quizno's a couple of times but I enjoyed it when I ate at the one in Eden Prairie.

If you ever get to Baltimore I can show you where to get a good steak'n'cheese. You need to get to one of the mom'n'pop shops that know how to do it right. :)

There's always Mr. Hero in Alexandria (VA) when I get back to the home turf, too. On the other hand, what with Balticon and Otakon, knowing where the good sub shops are in Baltimore would be a Good Thing.
