Talk about mixed feelings. P and I went over to Fox Way tonight to talk to Carlos about the house and the things in it, and wound up carting a small bookshelf and two boxes of books and magazines back to my place by way of Ye Chon. Carlos can't afford to keep the house; the union has been pretty worthless at keeping him at work since the beginning of the year, and it's anyone's guess how long the bank is going to let him slide on the mortgage. On the one hand, they don't want the house, but on the other hand, they kinda need the money. So we're all pretty much resigned to losing the place, and in the meantime we need to move all the things we want to keep out of there. In my case, that means a lot of books and magazines that have at least sentimental value to me, some of which have been sitting under the eaves for 30 years and are somewhat the worse for wear. I'm going to start packing them out of there after tax season is over on Wednesday night, assuming what's bothering me is just allergies and not something worse.

I feel bad that I can't help Carlos keep the place, but Maryland's politics aside, it's just not a good idea for me to move back in there. The place needs to be extensively rebuilt, the kitchen needs to be bombed at an intensity that would have appalled Curtis LeMay, and all of that adds up to a place that's not healthy for me to be in. Still, losing the old house is going to hurt.

Having the Winbox back online is good, and I appreciate P taking the time to troubleshoot it.

Do whatever it takes to try to sell the house rather than allow foreclosure. Even if the house needs serious work, it has intrinsic value, and unless multiple (or one large) refinancing(s) sucked all of the equity out of it, it should be worth something, even priced to move.

You and Carlos should talk to a realtor about it, if there is a reasonable chance that there is still equity in the house that might be extracted by sale, even after paying off the mortgage.

I think there is, but I could be wrong.

1) concerning trying to sell it - absolutely - don't just let it slide down the
drain without some research, that path is certainly not designed by people
who have your interests first....

2) take some pictures of the house, in and out - lose it or not, the memory of
man is a traitor that loses important things as years go by, and a few photos
can help to defeat its evil intents.

much love,

1) You're probably right. I'm not sure how this would work, since technically it's still part of Mom's estate, but I think a competent realtor could figure it out.

2) I really regret not taking more pix of the place in the past, especially back when it had the incredibly lush rose bush on the south fence. :(

I now try to get photos of everything - because I regret not having
photos of all of the good (and even not good) things in my life from
the past....

get a photo of the house in medium distance where the rose bush
was, and then see if you can recreate it with photoshop or something ;-)

yeah, I know, in your bloody spare time.

and hope your sack stops bleeding, that was quite a story - hard to
page down, laugh, and curl up into the fetal position all at once I can
assure you..... ;-)

My oh-so-copious free time, agreed.

The sack has healed up, but I'm still being careful with it. For obvious reasons, since I'm not dead yet and plan to be using it again. ;)

Hey, speaking of pictures, I'm gonna send you an e-mail.
