I'm not going to post much about the con right now because we just got back a couple hours ago, I'm pissed that I forgot the DVDs I needed to return to Video Universe at the hotel, and the coffee is rapidly wearing off. I will say that it was much more a media and gamer con than any of the cons I've been to in the Minneapolis/Cedar Rapids/Des Moines areas and maybe even the conventions I remember from the Washington area when I was a (relatively) wee neo. That's not the slam it appears to be - I'll get to the detailed criticisms in a later post, by which time I'll hopefully have heard back from the hotel about those DVDs.

Drive up sucked because we got caught in rush hour on 169 and 94 up through Albertville, mostly stupid bakas whose brains dissolved in the rain and clog up my freeways. I would have given my left nut for a roof-mounted disintegrator, I swear to God. Drive back was orders of magnitude better; left Fargo ~5:30 and were back in the Twin Towns around 10 after a couple of stops for gas, coffee, and more coffee. And now it is time for me to fall over and crash.

...try driving from Minneapolis to Winnipeg; Fargo's only half-way.

Once, when Sue, her boyfriend of the time (Mark) & I drove up to the Winnipeg Folk Festival we MADE him pull over in Grand Forks so we could runoutta the car (screaming at the top of our lungs) and into a "Stop & Go" store so we could gorge on junk food 'cuz we were going OUTTA OUR LEDDLE MIIIIINDS.

Of course, going by bus is even worse. I've done that _once_. 13 hours, and I had stayed up all night thinking that I'd sleep through the trip. Only dozed for about an hour, and I discovered that if you're sleep deprived _The_Teletubbies_ gets to be _just_like_ the movie version of _The_Time_Machine_.

I'm not making this up, you know...

No, I'm sure you're not. I'd thought about driving up to Ai-Con, an anime convention in Winnipeg around the end of April, but thirteen hours on the road? [shudder]

When did you remember the dvds? Were you able to turn around and go back for them or are you having the hotel mail them?

Well, I thought I'd packed the DVDs along with the rest of my stuff, so it was a nasty shock to open up the luggage in Robbinsdale and slowly realize that I'd left them in Fargo. Fortunately the hotel staff found them and will be mailing them to me.

Oops! That's why I'm so OCD about checking every nook and cranny of hotel rooms about 3 or 4 times before I check out.
