This article from the Guardian reminds me of the old Rice University cheer: "You can laugh/And have your day/But you'll be working /For us someday!"

Jane Galt asks,
Makes for an interesting discussion in the comments, with lots of other authors dragged in. Me? Heinlein, by a long shot. Until the execrable Number of the Beast came out I bought and read pretty much everything he wrote, even the lame and sprawling I Will Fear No Evil. Interesting that none of the commenters marked the correlation between his stroke in the early 1970s and the deterioration of his work...I'm of the opinion that the only good book after Glory Road was Time Enough For Love, which despite its length isn't anywhere near as good as Double Star or The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress.
1. Elaborate on your default icon.
It's one of the plush wombats offered by the Kangaroo Connection in Chicago, which is where I got the wombat keyring for
phoenixalpha and the enormous plush wombat for my niece Sierra a few years ago.
2. What is your current relationship status?
Divorced and not looking, thankyouverymuch.
3. What exactly are you wearing right now?
A somewhat threadbare blue cotton work shirt from Kaplan's, black Harbor Bay jeans with the left rear pocket blown out, white Hanes low-cut socks, black New Balance sneakers, and y'all don't really need to know about my underwear, okay?
4. What is your current problem?
Whipping out an overdue Culturally Responsive Action Plan by tomorrow at 3:30. Yes, it's Special High Intensity Training time again...
5. What do you love most?
My family, my faith, my country, books and music.
6. What makes you most happy?
Being with my friends, having a good time.
7. Are you musically inclined?

These days I can sing, according to everyone but my ex, and apparently sight-read as well.
8. If you could go back in time and change something what would it be?
Nothing. I regret nothing, because even the hideously painful experiences have been instructive.

Yes.
10. Name an obvious quality you have.
Unfortunately, I don't think any of my qualities are immediately obvious.

None right now, thank God.

Yes, thankfully the statute of limitations has expired, and I was a minor at the time besides.
16. Have you ever been in a fight?
Yes.

Choir in elementary school.

Jane Galt asks,
I wonder if those who read science fiction in childhood can be divided into those who liked Robert Heinlein better, with his swashbuckling individualism, and those who preferred Isaac Asimov, with his technocratic fantasies. And I wonder if those early preferences semi-reliably map onto the conservative/liberal divide . . .
