The Professor puts the boot in

wombat_sochoI missed the chance yesterday to post a link to this post at Instapundit, which leads with a truly amazing screed by someone who thinks Professor Death wants to be Glenn Greenwald, whoever the hell that is. Anyway, Reynolds goes on to point out a number of things the antiwar movement has gotten wrong (and continues to get wrong) by way of laying the smackdown on this clown.
I've given up trying to talk to the DFLers on my f-list about the war - they're all convinced it's gone horribly wrong, there's a civil war breaking out, our troops are slaughtering innocent civilians, and It's Just Like Vietnam All Over Again!!! Shit, most of these people aren't even old enough to remember the war in Vietnam - they just bought the conventional wisdom hook line and sinker. Well, the jihadis and the Iranians would certainly like us to think Iraq is Vietnam (only with a lot less jungle and a lot more sand), and they're definitely playing up to the media as if they were the Viet Cong, but Zarqawi ain't no Uncle Ho. A much better analogy would be the Philippine Insurrection, a small colonial war run on the cheap by a hardened professional army with a handful of volunteer units, but neither Emilio Aguinaldo nor the Moros was dumb enough to try massacring their fellow Filipinos as a route to victory.
Then again, if CNN and NBC had existed back then, the Moros at least might have given it a shot...
One last thing - there was a commenter on one of my friends' LJs who was trying to reassure the depressed poster with these inspiring words:

I don't know about the rest of you, but being referred to as a "silly monkey cow" doesn't exactly make me want to follow anyone, especially somebody who can't tell the Kool-Aid from the actual water. Besides, that silly elitist crap of the masses waiting for their "socially and spiritually awake" natural leaders went out with the 80s, except for backward places like Cuba. Iran, North KoreaCanada and France. This is America, baby. We pick our own damn leaders, and lately we like the ones who prefer Alan Jackson to Michael Stipe. Especially when they cowboy up, because it makes you leftist Anglos so crazy. ^_^
With that, I think it's time to go pick up more medicine for the weekend, wash some laundry, and maybe - just maybe - go to bed early tonight and get a full eight hours in before the all the work starts tomorrow.
UPDATE Well, two out of three ain't bad. Six hours ought to do me, and I can always catch a nap sometime tomorrow afternoon before I go to pick up the Mass Quantities of Barbecue.
