wombat_sochoDoug Williams over at Bogus Gold links to this Ben Stein column (which, BTW, has a lot of great advice for young people) as a launching pad for some observations about the importance of history and the all-too-frequent problem of dealing with people who get their history from Hollywood.
Context is everything, Stein and Williams say, and I agree. That's part of the reason I want to teach history - give at least some kids the context they need to know who they are and how fortunate they are to be living in the best of times in this best of all nations.
