There's no scoring method attached, although
cakmpls has a link to the original quiz. I'm using it more as an autobiographical tool than anything else, because class is too fluid in this country (for the most part) to base judgments of people on.
Bold the stuff that applies to you. In the original test, people to whom this stuff applied took one step forward to signify how much of a head start they had over people to whom it didn't.
Father went to college
Father finished college
As one of the commenters to the original post noted, this doesn't cover situations where it took people 10+ years to finish a four-year degree. In Dad's case, he made his pile based more on his computer skills than his BA in accounting.
Mother went to college
Mother finished college
Have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor.
Aunt Pat O'Malley was a professor of history and Uncle John Trainor was a psychologist.
Were the same or higher class than your high school teacher
I didn't know any of my high school teachers that well.
Had more than 50 books in your childhood home
Had more than 500 books in your childhood home
*dies laughing* More like 1000+, amirite kids?
Were read children's books by a parent
Had lessons of any kind before you turned 18
Had more than two kinds of lessons before you turned 18
Swimming and trombone.
The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively
There are no people in the media who dress and talk like me.
Had a credit card with your name on it before you turned 18
I had a gas card with my Dad's name on it. Is that close enough?
Your parents (or a trust) paid for the majority of your college costs
Your parents (or a trust) paid for all of your college costs
My Uncle Sam paid for most of my BA.
Went to a private high school
Went to summer camp
I'm not sure CAP Summer Encampment counts, but what the hell.
Had a private tutor before you turned 18
Family vacations involved staying at hotels
We didn't do family vacations. We did PCS moves and funerals.
Your clothing was all bought new before you turned 18
Your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them
Yes, and it almost killed me. I've hated Datsuns & Nissans ever since.
There was original art in your house when you were a child
Had a phone in your room before you turned 18
You and your family lived in a single-family house
Your parent(s) owned their own house or apartment before you left home
You had your own room as a child
Participated in an SAT/ACT prep course
Had your own TV in your room in High School
Owned a mutual fund or IRA in High School or College
Flew anywhere on a commercial airline before you turned 16
This doesn't really count, since the Air Force paid to fly Mom & I to Alaska from New Mexico after Dad made T/Sgt and got command sponsorship.
Went on a cruise with your family
Went on more than one cruise with your family
Your parents took you to museums and art galleries as you grew up
You were unaware of how much heating bills were for your family
Not a really big issue in the DC suburbs.
Final count 17, though a couple of those are iffy imao since they were part of being a service brat or because life didn't fit neatly into this test.
EDIT: Score changed on account of Mom not having been a coed.
