Acceptance, rejection, eBay and socks

Today is starting off fairly sucky. I took the truck to the park n' ride and caught the bus in, arriving early enough to pick up a McBreakfast on the way in to work. That was okay, but I was halfway down the WF Center to the elevator when I thought one of my leg tendons was going to come ripping right out of my leg. I slowed down and limped into the elevator and have been taking it very very slowly since then...swilled down a couple of ibuprofen with the morning OJ and vitamin and am trying to do some calf stretching. Hard to tell if it's working. Not a good sign for tomorrow's jaunt to the fair, not at all.

Since I drove downtown yesterday in order to accommodate phoenixalpha, I decided to catch dinner at Chipotle upstairs from Nick & Tony's with her and then ferry her out to the Sprawl so she could meet up with Karl & Joella. (She's getting a driver's license this school year, or else.) After some conversation over dinner, I bid them adieu and motored on home to feed and water the cat and catch the rest of the Republican Convention. ( Read more... )

I put up a bunch more CDs on eBay last night during the speeches and postponed laundry for another night when I found an extra pair of socks in the clean hamper.

Or should that be "linkagerie" as in "menagerie"? Is that a Bush/Kerry thing?

Cobb has a series of excellent posts about race, keying off a pissing content between Dean Esmay and Oliver Willis on the subject, and since I don't care for either one of those bozos they get no linky-love from me. Cobb, OTOH - read all the damn posts starting here and working your way up. Read the comments, too. And the links. His basic point about most white people being afraid to talk about race for fear of being Mau-Maued as racists is one that I see the truth of all the time in these parts.

Ambra's back and blogging again with some comments on the convention and the hassles of being young enough to fight in Iraq - and pay the penalty for being perceived as "irresponsible" at the car rental counter. Amen, sister.

Michelle Malkin has a few comments on last night's protesters trying to disrupt W's speech, and further up spreads a little linkylove of her own.

Some's better than none

The weigh-in this noon says I dropped 0.2 pounds this past week, which isn't much, but it is a loss and I'll take it. Just in time for the State Fair, they were handing out an unofficial point value sheet for some of the more common snacks at the Fair, and bearing in mind that my daily point limit is 34 points some of these items are pretty horrendous - brownies 15 points, corn dogs 16, footlong w/chili and cheese 16, gyros 15...the list goes on and one, reflecting the unfortunate truth that most of the food at the Fair is either dripping with fat, breaded and fried, or mostly composed of high fructose corn sweeteners. (Bag of Mini-Donuts: 25 points.) One bit of helpful advice was to share the food, which strikes me as a very good idea.

I'm not too sanguine about next week's weigh-in. Whatever's wrong with my foot/leg, the doctor's advice was to rest it, and that's not going to be too easy. Especially if phoenixalpha insists on trying to use me as her personal taxi to downtown instead of using her alarm, getting her butt up and catching the bus.
