Well, my last bus pass didn't sell on eBay, so I don't have to pay for using the bus & rail system this week. Murphy being Murphy, I expect this will lead to the Kia being repaired quickly and inexpensively tomorrow morning. :3

I slept long but not all that well last night - crashed around 10 PM after reading more of Burning Tower, slept until 0900 with more "urgh - is it time to get up yet? No? Rolling over now (thud)" moments. I'd thought about going over to the Sprawl for cheap breakfast at McD's, but inertia won and I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant again.

Today's plan is to get a GoPhone at the Sprawl's Radio Shack along with some necessary cables that got packed: I don't have either the download cable for my camera or the data cable for the external drive. This makes the external drive useless and the camera nearly so, so those issues need to be addressed. As for the GoPhone, the need for that should be pretty obvious. The Katana is unreliable and needs to be swapped out for a new/refurbed one by the factory, and in the meantime I need a functional phone.

So how was Burning Tower? )
I see that Niven also has a new collection of essays and miscellany out, Scatterbrain. Looks interesting.

Well, off to the Sprawl. Later.

That figures. I picked up a Virgin Mobile phone at Radio Shack for about $40 and a pair of cables for the same price (ouch) only to find that it would have been cheaper to just add another line to my Sprint account. So [livejournal.com profile] jamestrainor, you may be getting a cell phone sooner than you thought. Also, the camera cable doesn't fit the Kodak, so that's going to have to go back. Weehu. At least the external HD is working now. :)

So it's back to the Sprawl, where I will get my money back from Radio Shack only to spend it on another phone. Maybe. Possibly. After that I think I'm going to want some dinner and some human company. We'll see how that works out.

UPDATE: So I went back to Radio Shack, returned the camera cable, added another line to my Sprint account, and had Sprint switch the new account into the dead Katana and the old account into my new m300. Sadly, they couldn't switch the contacts over with the number, but at least everybody who wants to call me doesn't have to learn a new number.

Some moron trolls the [livejournal.com profile] catholicism community. Hilarity and macros ensue.
Lxri (among others) will no doubt be amused by the Dalek from the Holy Office.

swim night

[livejournal.com profile] jamestrainor and I got together for our usual Sunday swim, but this week we used the indoor pool at the Thunderbird instead of the outdoor pool at Fremont Court for what I hope are obvious reasons. It was noisy and crowded so we didn't stay in long.

We caught some TV while he tried to arrange a lift home. History Channel's Living Weapon was okay, but Adult Swim's Frisky Dingo was a weak attempt to duplicate the humor of Venture Brothers, and it was epic fail. I suppose it might have made more sense if I'd seen any of the previous episodes...nah. I didn't even want to give Moral Orel a shot - the technical quality was good, but the story seemed deliberately intended to piss off anyone even slightly religious. No thanks.

And so to bed...
