A proposal and pulled pork
Sep. 2nd, 2022 10:58 pmThe SSDI check dropped today, and I proceeded to pay a bunch of bills.
Weight was up but BG and BP were normal.
Tried baking another loaf of white bread (with 1/2c einkorn) and it didn't turn out as badly as yesterday's loaf, but it was no prize either. After perusing several internet sites, I've come to the conclusion that I'm not measuring my flour correctly and so I'm winding up with too much flour and not enough fluids. I'll test this, theory tomorrow, or maybe next week when the new coffee scoop, measuring spoons, and measuring cups arrive.
Speaking of food, after I lost two out of three against Boston at Fenway (the win was a surprising one, about which more later) I went out and blew $70 on tea, Diet Coke, more yogurt (they were out of the whole milk so I got the low fat instead), heat & eat pulled pork, ditto ribs, ditto chicken*, more brats, and some buns to put the pulled meats on. The pork is okay: not too sweet, not spicy, and not too messy.
Spoke with sales people from Palace Station this afternoon about room and function space, and the rep will email me a proposal next week with room rates and space quotes. I am cautiously optimistic that it will be better than the Plaza. In either case, I want to have a hotel nailed down by the beginning of October so I can arrange for a website and start pimping the convention.
The series at Fenway started out badly with Dierker getting pounded for five runs in two innings, while we could only muster one unearned run off Billingham and two runs off Roland, but it was too little too late, and we went down 5-3. The second game was a similar disaster, in which Kaat got torched for five runs (3 earned) in two innings, Gelnar gave up five more in his two innings of relief, Bryant gave up another two, and Moore closed out the game with another run, while our hitters scattered three runs off Moose and Hoerner to make the final score 13-3. After that I sent down Bouton, Garvey, and Moore in a fit of pique and recalled Rojas from the DL along with Brabender and Priddy from the minors. That worked out unexpectedly well. Brabender got the start (I completely overlooked Joe Coleman, just like the last time Bender got a start) and pitched six scoreless innings while Ken McMullen jacked one over the Green Monster to give us a one-run lead...which Gelnar promptly gave back in the seventh. I gave John the quick hook and sent in Drabowsky, who spent the rest of the game knocking off the Red Sox. Canizzaro drove in Cepeda and McMullen with a single in the 11th, and scored himself on an error by Wes Parker, and the Sox went down in order in the bottom of the 11th, to give Moe his second win. He's 2-4-9 now. We're still the worst team in the league, but I think we're doing better. May suggest a modified draft to Pete for next season - put some price tags on these players so people can't build super teams.
Off to bed.
