Two days at the Cannery for the VA
Jul. 8th, 2023 11:10 pmIt was really a tossup between the Cannery and the Motel 6 up by the Speedway (the race track, not the gas station) but having to pay the $24/day casino fee was worth being closer to the Sonic and the Sam's Club, where I stopped Thursday afternoon to pick up sushi...anyway, I had a room right by the elevator on the second floor and slept very soundly indeed.
Thursday I drove straight from Tonopah down to the VA and arrived an hour early for my 1500 appointment, which was good since they wanted me to show up at 1430. Moderate consternation at the state of the leg wounds, followed by washing and bandaging of the same. They laid down some Aquacel dressings, ABD pads, Kerlix, and Spandagrip in lieu of compression stockings, and I tottered off to Sam's and Sonic, stopping on the way out to schedule follow-up appointments on the same days as the NSSAB meeting and my annual talk with Dr. K. The selection of sushi at Sam's was a little disappointing, but since I hadn't eaten since leaving Tonopah around 1000 I was not inclined to be too picky.
Friday I woke up around 1000 after going to bed before midnight, had hash & eggs at Victory's, and got back to my room in time to whomp the Cubs in three straight games at RFK. Frittered away the next few hours before leaving for my 1730(!) lymphedema appointment, where I acquired a bunch of new compression stockings and a pair of Farrow wraps, which I won't be able to use until the leg wounds heal up. Decided that two nights of sushi would be too much of a good thing, so instead I went to China A-Go-Go on Losee and got some Kung Pao Chicken and crab Rangoon; this, along with a Sonic strawberry shortcake snowball slush float and leftover Philly roll from Thursday, was dinner. Knocked out the Friday bloggage and went contentedly to bed.
Slept in until 1000, managed to get packed up and checked out before 1100, and hauled my stuff out to the car. Stopped at the Sonic for a breakfast burrito and fluids, topped off at the Murphy Express on Craig & MLK, got lunch stuff at the Wendy's on Rancho along with a bag of ice, and headed home. Blew off shopping at Sam's & Walmart since I'd be coming back in a couple of weeks for he NSSAB meeting anyway and it's not like I don't have a freezer full of various meats and veggies already.
For once, I didn't stop along the way - not at Indian Springs, Amargosa Springs, Beatty, nor Goldfield. I just wanted to get home. And I did, arriving home right around 1500. Was tempted to nap but Toni talked me out of it, and instead I fixed an iced coffee, killed the Dioscuri Twins (I have come to hate them tremendously, while on the other hand I appreciate Caenis more) and draw closer to the Big Showdowns with Zeus and Kirschtaria.
