So after all the lovely family drama earlier this week the ex calls me to find out what's going on, since the daughter will tell her nothing and her fiance won't even talk to her at all, and after about two minutes of largely wasted time she finally gets around to accusing me of poisoning the fiance's mind against her. Not only that, she throws in as a free bonus the accusation that he is influencing the daughter against her, and flings a little more (aged) poo on behalf of her new husband. So according to her this is basically All My Fault.

Ooookay. You believe whatever you want to, and I'll just stay over here where I don't have to deal with you on an ongoing basis. I'm sure we'll both be happier that way. Well, I will. I can't say I care much whether you are or not.

Just curious...

...but why's Minicon off for you? I thought you were gonna run the Media Room (or something like that...)?

Well, there's a couple of reasons, and actually the ex is fairly low on the list. While I was invited to help with programming, nobody mentioned doing the anime thing again...and since I'm not chairman of AD any more I suspect the con will be less willing to indulge me by loaning me equipment anyway, so even if they had offered me the anime room I couldn't do it.

I'm also not feeling up to it physically. I'm going to be a while recovering from AD, and have pretty sure I won't be doing much at CONvergence aside from a couple of panels unless my legs stage a miraculous recovery. Last but not least, the AD Post-con Volunteer party is on the 15th, right smack in the middle of Minicon.

OK, really the last reason: I've met Harlan Ellison. Once was enough.

Snort!

I've had this dream for years that I'd run into Harlan Ellison, he'd have a thorn stuck in his pay that I'd pull out, and we be bestest friends for ever! (We'd have slumber parties, do each other's hair, talk about who the dreamiest boys were....)

Oh, I've been reading a book by Andrew Sullivan (can't recall the name right now), and I've forgotten the name of his blog. Can you tell me?

Thanks.

It's The Daily Dish (http://time.blogs.com/daily_dish/) and is now part of the AOLTimeWarner conglobulation. I haven't read it since before the 2004 election, myself, but he did seem like a fairly sensible guy up to about March of 2004.

Thanks for the info. I'm really enjoying this book of his I'm reading. (Can't recall the title just off the peaked little top of my head.)

She sounds mean. Hope she doesn't bother you too much... looks like not :)

She wants things the way she wants them in her life, and she believes that her daughter is part of that life. Daughter has a different opinion.

Jeez

Some people just like to make other people's lives misreable... :(

I think it's more like the young woman who caused all the drama on Friday night: all must be as she desires, regardless of what the others affected may want. The misery of others is unfortunate but relatively unimportant in her value system; rather, since their misery makes her unhappy they are even more to blame. They should be happy so she can be happy!

There are times when i wish I didn't understand that type of mind nearly so well.
