Good news: My Social Studies Methods instructor consulted with the new head of the MA Instruction program and they agreed that I didn't need to sit through the class for the third time. All I have to do is turn the assignments in by August 3. w00t!

Bad news: Some people get con crud after conventions. I managed to screw up my legs again. It's not too bad - I'm running a low-grade fever and there's drainage from my right leg, but a few long nights of sleep and some antibiotic on the bandages ought to whip it. This means I'll have to work on getting my apazine done tonight before I go to bed early (again) tomorrow during the day, and tomorrow night, possibly finishing up Saturday morning before heading out to get it copied. I may blow one of those evening sessions off in favor of a long therapeutic soak in the pool, especially since temperatures are heading into the 90s this weekend. Ugh. Entirely too much like home.

In unrelated news, apparently Peter's Grill closed while I wasn't looking back on July 1. Apparently the new owners, who bought the place from Peter Atsidakos (nephew of the original owners) back in 2003, ran into financial problems, though how you can screw up a business like that is beyond me. Let's face it - the place is packed every day for lunch and does a pretty good breakfast business, despite being on the fringe of the business district. Atsidakos says he might reopen the place, or the new owners might. Somebody ought to. This city has few enough decent restaurants as it is.

Kind of related to the preceding: the same article in Downtown News included a brief note announcing that Hooters is now open in Block E, despite the misgivings of the Minneapolis City Council. Still, moneygrubbing Puritan swine that they are, they did approve the liquor license for this branch of the national chain famous for its wings and scantily clad waitresses. Mmmm, wings. ;)

It's hard to take the City Council seriously when they have a half dozen strip clubs a few blocks over from the new Hooters and have the Sexpo convention at the Convention Center, but then again a lot of people can't link.

Yeah, they have cognitive dissonance down to a fine art. It's another reason why I don't live there any more.

I sure hope the closing is temporary. I had a high school friend who worked there (she called herself "Betty the Enlightened Waitress").

You and me both - the quality of the food and service were both outstanding.
