Bagels = Death
Aug. 24th, 2004 10:49 amI swear, I am going to write this on a Post-It Note and stick it to my bathroom mirror where I'll see it every morning before work. Every time I stop at Bruegger's and grab a couple of bagels for breakfast, my blood sugar gets hosed up for the entire day, and I need that like a fresh new hole in my head. Case in point: yesterday I grabbed the sausage, egg & cheddar on garlic and a cream cheese on pumpernickel. (Fresh from the oven, too...you wanna talk food porn, bubeleh? I got some steamy softcore right here.) I didn't go to lunch until 1 PM, and my blood sugar had still surged from 127 to 210. Two chili dogs, four hours and a quart of Diet Coke later, it was up again to 227. No, bagels are the evil, and I'll have to bid them adieu. I don't mind being stuck with needles, but I want to put off dealing with the insulin as long as possible. Half an hour after the cremation ought to be about right.

Date: 2004-08-24 02:54 pm (UTC)It sounds like you need to find some quick, healthy alternatives for breakfast. If you're eating in the car that might be difficult, but if you are eating at the office break room once you get there maybe there is something you can bring from home that would be better. My old workplace had both a microwave and a toaster-oven in the break room. The time you save by not stopping on the way to work, could be spent having breakfast at home or eating in the break room when you get there.
You'd also probably save about $5.00 a day by not eating breakfast out. The savings could go towards other things, like Anime/Manga. For every day you eat something from home instead of eating out you could put $5.00 into a reward jar for yourself.

Date: 2004-08-24 04:02 pm (UTC)With diabetes of both types on both sides of my family, I've always keep a close eye on my blood sugar, and I've found that it's not what you eat, it how much, what kind, and what you eat it with.
I have english muffins for breakfast often, but I make sure they're coupled with a fiberous fruit or high-pulp juice, and then have veggies throughout the day to push the sugary stuff through with no harm.
My blood sugar tends to hang around 170 after meals and trails off to about 100 in the in-between.
at least you're smart enough to keep track!
