The little construction company that could fired me a little before 4 PM today. They didn't say why (this is Virginia, they don't have to) and the only reason I can think of is so trivial it's probably just as well I'm not going to be working there any more, if that's what it was. Well, it was profitable while it lasted.

I called Accountemps on the way home and had them reactivate my file; they said to call them back Monday morning. Guess it's time to buff up my resume and hit monster.com, see if the Feds have anything to offer. April may be the cruelest month, but I need to have the rent ready by March 30 regardless.

Condolences, and I will choose to hope and believe that the next one will be better!

Thanks. There's several likely jobs just on the Accountemps website, so I don't think I'll have too much trouble finding new work.

Thanks. Hopefully one of the jobs I applied for online will come through - just about all of them pay better.

Thanks. Actually, I liked the job well enough, except for the occasional ZOMG DROP EVERYTHING AND JUMP THROUGH YOUR ASS! NO, WAIT, DROP THAT AND DO THIS MORE IMPORTANT THING RIGHT NOW! crap that management occasionally dropped on us accounting guys. Meh. There's plenty of accounting work out there, so I don't expect to be sitting around for long.

No kidding. I think this is the shortest I've been at a permanent job since I bombed out as an SA manager.

Obviously I didn't see it coming either, though you did get a vague form of foreshadowing in the form of the Little HR Department That Couldn't. Companies that are that screwed up in SG&A generally have bigger issues that often result in strangeness like you just experienced.

Remember why I fired my previous employer (discovering three and a half months in that HR had dropped the ball on my insurance, a common occurrence apparently if other people's tales are to be believed, and upper management circled the wagons rather than taking disciplinary action).

Yeah, I guess that should have been a warning sign that they didn't have their shit together on a number of levels. I'm not going to brood over it, though. It's their loss.
