Mark Taylor's mother died this morning at 0500, shortly after he'd left the family farm in Luray . Mrs. Taylor had been through a lot these last few months, and this was expected; she was receiving hospice care at home, so at least she was comfortable at the end.
Rita is survived by her husband of 55 years, Brigadier General Chester D. Taylor, Jr., USAF (Retired) of Luray, sons David Taylor of Leesburg and Mark Taylor of Reston, daughters Mary Ellen Taylor of Purcellville and Kathleen Jorgensen of Herndon, and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Mary Greene of Shafer, Minnesota, her brother Patrick Keith, of San Antonio, Texas, her son-in-law Wally Reed of Purcellville, her son-in-law David Jorgensen of Herndon, many nieces and nephews, and friends throughout the world.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Father Christopher Lemme, TOR, at Our Lady of The Valley Catholic Church in Luray at 11 am on Friday December 12, 2008. At Rita’s request, her body has been cremated. Arrangements are by the Bradley Funeral Home of Luray. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements for the burial will be published at a later date.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Bethesda National Navel Medical Center, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Rehabilitation Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, University of Virginia Medical Center, Page Memorial Hospital, Page Memorial Home Care, Life Care Center of New Market, Home Instead Senior Care and Blue Ridge Hospice for the throughly outstanding professional care so lovingly provided to Rita during her extended illness, and to all who sent cards and said prayers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of The Valley Ladies Society, 200 Collins Avenue, Luray, VA 22835 or to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite #405, Winchester, VA 22601.
The Family cordially invites all friends of Rita and Chet to a reception in honor of Rita’s life at the Mimslyn Inn in Luray from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, December 11.
I called Mark this evening and he seems to be holding up well enough under the circumstances. I'll be going down after work on Thursday to attend the reception/wake, since I can't make it to the Mass on Friday.
It's also been eight years since my father died. Didn't make it to Arlington today, but will make an effort to stop by this coming weekend.
