From Joel Rosenberg's Not For Glory:

" 'Write this for a memorial in the book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua, for I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.' Not my emphasis; his. Or, 'I—I, Shimon Bar-El—remember what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way when he came up out of Egypt. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not—' Remember, Tetsuo? Remember?"

It seems very clear to me that Hamas has chosen to be Amalek. Hopefully the path that leads to Ari Hanavi quoting his uncle Shimon in an apartment carved out of the rock of Metzada will not come about, as it involves the obliteration of Israel and Mecca both, but I'd be lying if the possibility hadn't crossed my mind.

The most surprising thing to me about this war is how incredibly inept the Russian Army has been. Things have clearly changed since the 80s and 90s when everyone was worried about the Bear and its satrapies invading Western Europe, and not for the better: if these are the professional troops, as opposed to the conscripts, they are doing a terrible job. Makes you wonder if that commie Andrew Cockburn wasn't right after all and we could have thrown the Soviets back to their own borders.

Anyway, the war seems to have stirred up a minor kerfluffle on the Right about whether we should be backing the evil, corrupt ex-KGB officer (but nominal defender of Christianity against Globohomo) or the merely corrupt former comedian (but brave national leader) who is risking his life in Kiev, but apparently has the backing of Globohomo, the WEF, George Soros, the Rothschilds, etc., etc. ad nauseam. Me, I don't actually have to choose sides, but insofar as I favor anyone, it's the Ukrainians. Even though all the people who were lying to me about the jab & Corona-chan are now pimping the Ukrainians super extra hard.

The paleos do have a valid question though, and one I have yet to see answered: why do our so-called elites give a goddamn about Ukraine's borders when they clearly don't care about ours? Why do so many Left and GOPe types have financial interests in the Ukraine - like that useless crackhead Hunter Biden? Kinda makes you go "Hmmmm," as Arsenio Hall used to say.

Well, my grades are in, and they're nothing to write home about. One A, one C, a D, and a couple of Fs. Unfortunately, the Fs are in Business Law and Intermediate Accounting II, both of which I need to sit for the CPA exam. So I'm in the process of requesting a waiver from the Assistant Dean of the STAB (Science, Technology, Accounting & Business) department which will allow me to do those courses over again in the spring with different instructors in different places. I did pass statistics, and (ironically enough, considering I flunked IA2) advanced accounting, and even got an A in marketing.

I don't have much to say about Dear Leader croaking off, except that it's about time. Hopefully things will start to change in that miserable corner of the world - let's face it, when people are volunteering to move away to Siberia and do manual logging, your country sucks - but I'm not going to hold my breath. Blue is totally not my color.

It's been nice having Melody back in town for TDY. We've had a lot to talk about.

Speaking of things to talk about, my old classmate Tish (the cereal killer, LOL) and her husband Gavin had their annual Open House this past Sunday, and having been invited I figured I ought to go. It was worth it. I managed to avoid the cookies, brownies, cakes and such, while enjoying their son Liam's mastery of the family pulled pork recipe and some decent conversations of a non-political nature.* Tish & Gavin have been married twenty years now, are very happy with each other, and have some awesome kids. Good times.

*I should point out that I'm the token conservative in their circle of friends. :)

'Ingrid of the Jungle': the wacky comic version of Betancourt's story | The Observers:
What if Ingrid Betancourt had travelled to the Colombian jungle after agreeing to a fake high-profile kidnapping? What if Nicolas Sarkozy had orchestrated her rescue to boost his popularity ratings and to settle an old score with former primer minister Dominique de Villepin?

Just as Franco-Colombian politician and former FARC hostage Ingrid Betancourt launches her memoirs, Even Silence Has an End, a whole different version of her story is also hitting bookstores in France. Ingrid de la Jungle (Ingrid of the Jungle), a comic book written by French writers Serge Scotto and Eric Stoffel, and illustrator Richard di Martino, is a highly politically incorrect take on Betancourt's captivity and its political implications in France.

Usually I blow off 90% of what shows up in my inbox from France 24, but once in a while they deliver some amazing (or at least interesting) stuff. I wonder when someone will get around to doing this for that lying popinjay Rigoberta Menchu.

Leadership: Chinese General Declares Democracy The Ultimate Weapon:
Liu is a special kind of officer. He's a political officer, a job invented by the Russians during the Soviet period. The political officer is assigned to units from company size on up, and is second in command of the unit. The political officer is responsible for the political loyalty of all the officers and troops in the unit.

When even the commissars are saying the system is broken, is the CCP pragmatic enough to listen? If so, they'll be the first ones. Ever. RTWT. (Ace)

Hot Air » Hillary: Let the babies starve until we fund abortions:
Does Hillary Clinton think it is more important to promote liberal Western ideologies than to address the critical needs of the women and children of Africa and Asia? Does she prefer to promote the tired, old eugenic orthodoxies of the largely discredited population-control movement? Is Hillary Clinton — and the Obama administration — willing to hold up funding for maternal and infant health because of a dogmatic commitment to a universal right to abortion on demand?

Are these rhetorical questions? Do these people have no familiarity with the Clinton and Obama record and current policy on these issues? Anyone who is surprised at any of these shenanigans is too innocent to be reporting on politics in this day and age. Maybe too innocent to be reporting on anything in America.

Or whatever they're calling it this week at Foggy Bottom.

The Corner - National Review Online:
The region is bubbling, lots of it (including Afghanistan) due to Iran, and we still have no Iran policy. Dennis Ross doesn't seem to have one. While we're purging, send him back to the lecture circuit and find someone who sees the war plain, and can wage political war on the mullahs.

Yeah, like that's going to happen under this Administration. There are days when I think GVDL is right, and it's going to take another 9/11 (or something worse) to convince a lot of Americans to take Iran seriously, and then there are days when I think even that horror won't be enough. At which point I really regret having had to give up drinking.

VIRTUALLY ALL the coverage of judge Garzón's suspension in the English-language media lacks a basic understanding of recent events at best, or outright distortion at worst (yeah, I know, big surprise), on the nature of the accusation against him, the circumstances that surround it, and Spain's recent history.

As a Falangist, I'm enjoying the spectacle of this showboating bully getting hoist by his own petard. Few people in modern Spain deserve it more. RTWT.

Got a call yesterday from the medical supply joint I do business with, who told me that my replacement stockings would be delivered today. About damn time; I ordered them before Detour. Also got an e-mail from one of the guys I bought music from over half.com informing me that he was shipping my CD. Also good.

I may give Haband another chance. The ad they sent me had some very reasonably priced slacks, jackets, and shoes, some of them actually in my size, and I'm definitely in the market for all three. Won't be doing that until next payday, though.

Lot of folks talking about the French elections; a fairly amusing piece by Jules Crittenden advises President-elect Sakozy to lose the accordion. I find it quietly amusing, myself, to relfect that despite all the alleged anti-American feeling abroad, Sarkozy was elected in France, Merkel led the CDU to victory in Germany, Harper and the Tories won in Canada, Howard was re-elected in Australia, and Blair is likely to be succeeded in England by the equally pro-American Brown. Oh, yes - Calderon won in Mexico, the rabidly pro-US GNP is pretty much a lock to take back the Blue House in Seoul, and Koizumi was succeeded by Shinzo Abe, who's from the same faction (yes, pro-American) of the LDP. So either we're doing something right here, or our Dark Lord has been unusually effective with the orbital mind control lazers. Maybe both.
