I forgot the HP monitor they loaned me. Well, if they really want it back, I can mail it - it's not like I don't have a zillion boxes & cushioning thingies clogging up the apartment. Maybe they'll just let me keep it for next year.
After stopping to drop off the rent check, fuel up, and pick up the mail (forgot to put in a hold order) I headed up US-95, stopping briefly at Luning to piss and throw out trash, Yerington for fluids and lunch, Dayton for more fluids (in and out), and finally got to the Extended Stay America around 1900. Got my stuff up to the room and just flopped out for a couple of hours before unpacking most of my stuff and getting to work on the blogging.
Going to head out to Smith's and get something by way of dinner, probably sushi, although I should get something less carby.
Someone on Twitter mentioned that it was 35 years ago that Toni Chapman's "Fast Car" was released. Fuck, I'd almost managed to forget that damn song and all the unpleasant memories of the summer of '88 when I was trying to get through the Russian refresher course at Ft. Sheridan with Lois calling me every day to scream at me. It got bad enough that the cadre told me I was not to take any more phone calls, and I spent a good part of one evening looking out at Lake Michigan thinking about just punting the whole deal and going East after the course was done. Doug had offered to help me move back to Maryland, and to this day I couldn't tell you why I didn't. Too stubborn to let her run me off, probably.
Well, tomorrow will be the first day of the death march to April 18. I will probably stay up here an extra day to avoid having to drive home after getting off work that Tuesday night and go home in the afternoon of the 19th after pillaging Sam's Club.
