Every year I promise myself that I'm going to pay for my CE at the beginning of tax season, and I never do. Then I get pissed off because for some damned reason Block won't take your $35 and let you dive right into classes, no, you have to wait a day. Infuriating. Anyway, in addition to my usual ethics, tax update, and AFTP classes, I signed up for a bunch of Oregon state tax classes, so that in November I can pop into a testing center while I'm down in Las Vegas for NSSAB stuff or a VA appointment and (hopefully) knock out the qualifying exam for Oregon state taxes, which will make me the only Oregon-qualified tax pro in the Reno district. Which should be good for a hundred or so returns.

I went out very briefly this evening to Raley's to pick up tea, cream, and Greek yogurt, but while I was there I also picked up some no-sugar-added rice and tapioca pudding along with some flan, as well as sunflower seeds since they were on sale and I've become habituated to having them in my morning flax muffins. This was paid for out of the PenFed account, since the VA finally let loose of one of the travel reimbursements they owe me. I also threw $100 of that deposit at the USAA AMEX, which I have decided will be my go-to card for the Anime Fusion Excursion.

Speaking of which, I have decided to break that trip into a four-day drive so I don't strain myself or spend hours driving down two-lane Wyoming state highways in the dark. Day 1 will be Sunday, and I figure I can make my way east through Ely and Wendover to Salt Lake City without too much trouble. Day 2, Columbus Day, will get me to Cheyenne. Tuesday it'll take me about five hours to get to Rapid City, and another two hours to reach Murdo or some other little town along I-90 with motels and a diner. Wednesday should get me into Minnesota, or at least to Sioux Falls, and getting to the hotel Thursday night should be no trouble at all. I figure the most time-consuming chunks will be getting to I-80 on the way to Wendover, the stretch from Cheyenne to Rapid City (unlike the Dakotas where I-29 runs along the Red River/MN border, there is no I-27 running along the western border of the Dakotas), and the home stretch through southwest Minnesota; all of these are along US highways which appear to be two-lane blacktop or state highways, ditto.
