Been spending way too much time at [livejournal.com profile] chebutykin's place schooling Minnesotans ([livejournal.com profile] pseudomanitou in particular) on why a guy like me isn't all in love with the Obamessiah and FILLED WITH HATE for W like them. Yeah, right. Bitter, gun-clinging Falangist me voting for Obama. Anyway, I'm calling quits to the remedial education after discovering that [livejournal.com profile] pseudomanitou doesn't know who Saul Alinsky is nor what his connection to Obama and Clinton is. WTF. Not only that, he thinks I'm being a culture warrior (which apparently is BAD) for even bringing it up. Sod that for a game of retarded soldiers.

Ah, well, as GVDL says, "You Want a Culture War? You've Got One." He quotes Don Surber: "It's all about Walmart. Republicans shop there. Democrats want to close them down." Via Don, he also supplies us with this possible replacement for the old & busted Wilson sisters' song. Can I get a "Hell Yeah!"?

Shopping last night was full of fail. Wal-mart was still out of surgical sponges, Target didn't even stock them, and CVS charges $2/box more. On top of that, I forgot to apply Murphy's Law and buy a screwdriver. So, no shelving work today either.

P declared the Optiplex officially dead this morning after breakfast (Vienna Amphora, very nice but just as spendy as the Herndon original) after ripping it apart with her bare hands and a survival knife. Because she could, but also for the therapeutic stress relief destruction brings. Cause of death: heat-induced hole in the CPU. She took the CPU chip and the motherboard, mumbling something about making jewelry with them, and made me swear repeatedly that my next desktop would not be a Dell. No problem there, kiddo. I'm pretty thoroughly convinced now that Dells and Compaqs both suck pretty badly. Build me a new one?

Tim Powers' Three Days To Never plays interesting games with time travel, Einstein, the Mossad, and a cast of interesting people. Lots of yummy tasty plot twists, violence, and the creepy interface between science and magic. Highly recommended.

Plans for the day include laundry and cataloguing at the old place, possibly after a nap.

I like Cheb a lot, but when it comes to disenthralling her or her peers of their PDS, it's a fool's errand. It's also counterproductive, because the Palin hatred is a good red herring to keep them off balance. "The more they tighten their grasp, the more star systems slip from their hands."

...it's a fool's errand.

"I am that fool!" - Gomez Addams

srsly, I have to admit that up to a point I don't mind baiting them, because it's pretty obvious they have no idea what a real conservative looks like and it's not too hard to get them (well, [livejournal.com profile] pseudomanitou at any rate) to start chasing their own tails and barking furiously because I don't match their mental image of a mind-numbed Rethuglican.

Cheb and Emily, on the other hand, I enjoy engaging with for non-sadistic reasons. I can occasionally learn something from them, even if it's only how to sharpen my arguments.

I went and read the thread. Cheb when she is actually talking to people than posting ideas is pretty reasonable. But I couldn't be as dispassionate as you in this thread, and yea psuedo is a dink.

I have to give credit to most of the folks in that thread who engaged me; they did actually seem interested in finding out what I thought rather than playing gotcha. Someday pseudo will grow up - or not, he's not my problem so I don't waste any time worrying about it.

Vienna Amphora, very nice but just as spendy as the Herndon original

you got that backwards, kemo sabe.

There are actually four Amphoras - a restaurant (Vienna) that dates to the mid 60s, a modern diner (dates to the mid 90s) and more recently two bakeries with small cafes attached for pigging out on eating the goods offered for sale there.

Sorry for missing you and P at breakfast this morning; I was recovering from last night. :-)

I'm typing this on a 5+ year old Dell laptop...only thing thats gone wrong is I had a hard drive go out, but it lasted long enough I was able to recover everything.

But of course that was 5 years ago, I can't vouch for the crap they are putting out now...

Yeah, my Gateway laptop is about that old and still chugging along as well. On the other hand, I bought it new; the Dell and its Compaq predecessors were both refurbs.

You could easily be forgiven for not knowing this, but [livejournal.com profile] pseudomanitou is one of those politically-charged artiste types that thinks producing poster art with bumper-sticker level slogans is the highest form of political commentary. Talking to that kind of person about politics is a fool's game; they're invariably so emotionally invested in their political stance that challenging it is a deep personal insult.

It's got to take some balls for him to condemn you for fighting a culture war after drawing stuff like this or this, though.

And here I thought he was just an ignorant furry. Clearly, he's a stupid ignorant furry. Not that there's anything wrong with being a furry, mind you...
Anyway, I flushed his three most recent replies to my comments in that thread after telling him he was going in my killfile, so that's an end to that.

I don't mind being accused of fighting the culture war. It beats picking up a rifle and fighting a civil war.

Damn, I would have loved to have been a participant in that conversation.
Cheb and Cajones, while I disagree with them politically, are fun to be around. Emily and I have a small bit of history though, so her and I in the same room talking politics is a Very Bad Thing.
This pseudomanitou gentleman and I have been having mostly cordial back-and-forth under Cheb's MLK entry, but it's getting rather old because I feel like I'm having to educate him on a lot of the history behind people's positions. For example, he stated that he didn't know much about John McCain's background before 2000, other than is POW experience.
There are a lot of things that went on back in the '80s and '90s that go a long way to explaining why the political Right was leary of John McCain, and having to go through all that just to get a baseline for discussion gets tiresome.

You didn't miss much - he evidently has never met anyone like me, which considering the circles he travels in doesn't surprise me at all, and he seems to have a real problem with disagreeable curmudgeons who can back their positions up with actual experience. He strikes me as all too typical of leftists who have never met a real, breathing, flesh-and-blood conservative and imagine that they're all like the dumb, brutal stereotypes they read about in the media and their favorite blogs. I don't have the patience to argue with someone that deliberately ignant any more, though.

I think [livejournal.com profile] mle292 understands that I'm not kidding about being a Falangist and unlike our dipshit young artist, she understands where I'm coming from with it. We've worked together at Convergence a few times and politics never came up, so...*shrug*
