Dropped by Chez
stuckintraffik last night to pick up my two-wheeler and was treated to a movie I don't even remember hearing about when it was released - probably because Fox spent absolutely nothing on advertising, not even sending posters to the handful of theaters that actually showed it. The movie was Idiocracy, produced by Mike Judge, the fellow who gave us Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill, and Office Space, and it's an interesting mix of all three, really.
( Cut for spoilers )
Disturbingly enough, on the way in to work on the 535, the back passenger-side corner of the bus was occupied by an overweight couple who sounded like they'd been extras in the movie, only without the brightly colored, logo-adorned clothes.

Pretentious level is over nine thousand!

(Via Lileks, who delivers a suitably snarky and parodistic homage.)
P, RS,
stuckintraffik,
tjstriker: you need to check out this T-shirt. It's relevant to your interests. ;)

the overt agenda
Jan. 10th, 2007 05:14 pmToday I got a callback from the woman that does the ordering of supportstockings at Apria. She didn't quite come right out and say it, but I get the impression that the stockings aren't supposed to be wearing out/breaking their zippers quite so quickly. Hmmm. In any case, I'll have to make the busted ones I have do for a couple of weeks until the new ones show up. Tomorrow morning I have my quarterly appointment with the podiatrist, who will probably trim some of my toenails to his satisfaction and have some useful advice.
Tonight I'll peck away at the stack of registration forms, though I seriously doubt I'll get them done before Saturday's staff meeting. Hopefully we'll have a board meeting before the staff meeting, but that's up to
tatsmaru; we do need to make some decisions about things not immediately related to the convention. While I'm beavering away at the forms, I'm going to do a new loaf of bread and see how this egg nog quick bread recipe works out...this store-bought stuff is just way too rich for me, and probably isn't doing my waistline any favors either. Anyhow, all that ought to keep me busy until an earlier-than-usual bedtime; the podiatrist appointment is at 8 and I want to get there a little early so as to increase my chances of getting to work on time.

Okay, this is pretty damn cool. Do you get the complete set with a purchase of a Samsung electron microscope?
